Fresh off the Farm Antiques

Growing up on a farm in western Iowa during the 60's and 70's we had lot of antiques. Of course we didn't call them antiques. We called them Grandma's old crock or Grandpa's old Skillet. We actually used the stuff!!! It wasn't until I was older that I discovered this old stuff that we used was quite collectible and in antique shops. I had just taken it for granted that everyone had an attic full, basement full, barn full, shed full of our ancestors stuff. Midwesterners typically didn't throw things away ... it just got storage away. Thank goodness of all these wonderful things from the past would have been lost.

The Charm of Something Old

I'm just a big sentimental softly for antiques. I want to image who owned them before, how they were used, how important they were to their previous owners in the past and what part they played in their everyday lives. "If only antiques would talk" what stories they would tell... The Cherished favorite doll, book, the dish that always held the special Christmas salad, the wedding gift, the trusty iron, the colorful tablecloth that was only used for special occasions the list could go on and on.

Our Barntiques Kitties

Barnituqes Antique Mall is actually in a turn of the century barn located on our "farm"... we actually just have 5 acreages, but is was once a farm.
Everyone loves the country atmosphere. Especially our Barn Kitties.
We usually have cats for everyone to pet and love while visiting our store. No one loves our cats more than one of our great dealers Elaine's sweet young daughters. Unfortunately her one daughter is very allergic, but she still loves to see them.

Where does "Barntiques" get it's name??

My husband thought of the name for several reasons. First of all Barntiques Antique Mall is actually in our turn of the century barn located on our farm near Iowa City.
The second reason is that we wanted to pay tribute to the Farm and Farmhouses of our great state. We try to buy most of our antiques from farm sales and tag sales from the area. We call it...."fresh off the farm antiques" , so the name Barntiques... is Antiques sold out of a Barn... from Barns etc. We hope you can visit Barnitques soon to see what's new.

What Cheer Flea Market

Jessica and I headed in the old gray van to What Cheer Iowa for their annual flea market.
What a beautiful day it was. We could only be their a few hours because we had to get back to run the store , but we made good use of time and came home with a load. It was so much fun. Didn't find a many primitives as I wanted, but still got some wonderful hidden treasures.
